D.A. Whitacre Construction was formed in 1978 as a sole proprietorship under the license # 353526. The company began as a General Contracting firm performing remodels, additions and ground up construction in both residential and commercial markets.

In 1984 the Company was incorporated under the license # 468758 and became D.A. Whitacre Construction, Inc. Donald A. Whitacre became the President, Bill W. Whitacre the Vice President and Vicki L. Whitacre the Corporate Secretary. (See "about company history and the Principals") The company would specialize in concrete foundations and wood framed homes. By 1985 the company would frame more than 100 homes per year.

At this time D.A. Whitacre Construction, Inc. entered into the commercial market performing rough carpentry on Commercial and Industrial projects. Due to the differences in residential and commercial framing including safety, insurance, the work force and the anticipated potential of the commercial market, the decision was made to focus on the commercial market. At this time the company created a division that specialized in roof and floor structures.

In 1990 the company had constructed and moved into its own office facility and employed approximately 100 carpenters and 6 office staff. In 1995 due to the fluctuating lumber market and the structural devaluation of lumber, D.A. Whitacre Construction, Inc. began to integrate structural steel into their program. The company qualified for a C 51 license allowing for the fabrication and installation structural steel. The company completed the first hybrid roof structure (a combination of steel truss girders and purlins with wood subpurlins and plywood deck), in San Diego County.

In 1999 D.A. Whitacre Construction, Inc. expanded into a third facility. At this time, D.A. Whitacre Construction, Inc. had completed many projects that were being constructed of 100% steel products including steel girders, purlins, floor joist and steel decking. D.A. Whitacre Construction, Inc. also expanded it's multi-story wood framed structures, some covering a full city block and as many as five and a half stories tall.

D.A. Whitacre Construction, is as solid as the structure it frames....

In 2000 the Company expanded into Nevada opening an office in Las Vegas. D.A. Whitacre Construction, Inc. services the area with a core crew of approximately 25 men. In addition to Nevada, the D.A. Whitacre Construction, Inc. service areas include San Diego, Imperial, Riverside, San Bernardino, Orange County as well as the Palm Desert and Indio.

D.A. Whitacre Construction, Inc. employs 325 field carpenters and welders, 20 person office and shop staff including an operation manager, three project managers, project engineers, two project coordinators, a chief estimator, a senior estimator, a scope change estimating coordinator, two accounts receivable personnel, an accounts payable/payroll person, safety officer, shop coordinator, fleet mechanic and class C operator. The Company will complete single projects to $15 million and has a bonding capacity of $20 million. (See "Projects" for specific projects and types)

D.A. Whitacre Construction, Inc. provides a variety of preconstruction and design build services including project budgeting and value engineering.
